Printing at true size
- In the print dialog, choose 100% or Actual size, and turn off Fit to page.
- Measure the check bar with a ruler. If it isn't exactly 50 mm, the scale is off: check the print settings and print again.
- Cut along the outer edge. To measure, put the centre mark on the corner and the baseline along one side.
About this tool

The options
- Shape: a half circle reads 0° to 180°, which is the familiar school protractor; a full circle reads all the way to 360°, for reflex angles and bearings.
- Paper and size: choose A4 or Letter and a diameter in millimetres or inches. The size is limited to what fits the sheet.
- Marks: every degree, or every half degree on larger sizes, where the lines are far enough apart to tell apart.
- Scales: two scales running in opposite directions, like a school protractor, or one for a cleaner sheet.
- Marked angle: draws a line at any angle, to use as a cutting or marking template.
Why the check bar matters
Printers and browsers often shrink a page slightly to fit their margins, and a protractor printed at 97% has every mark in the wrong place. The check bar is printed at a known length: measure it with a ruler before you rely on the sheet. If it is off, set the print scale to 100% or Actual size, turn off Fit to page, and print again.
Using it as a template
With a marked angle, glue the sheet to card, cut along the line, and set a sliding bevel or trace the angle straight from the edge. Download SVG gives the same drawing as a vector file for a laser cutter, a vinyl cutter or a drawing program, where it stays sharp at any size.
Paper stretches with humidity and a cut edge is only as straight as the cut, so for fine joinery check the result against the on-screen protractor or a square.

Can you print a protractor?
Yes. This page makes a half-circle or full-circle protractor sized for A4 or Letter paper, with marks every degree or every half degree, and prints it at true size.
It only comes out the right size if the printer does not scale the page. In the print dialog, choose 100% or Actual size and turn off Fit to page, then measure the check bar on the sheet with a ruler. If the bar is the wrong length, the whole protractor is off by the same amount.
How do you use a printable protractor?
Cut it out along the outer edge. To measure, put the small centre mark on the corner of the angle, lay the baseline along one side, and read the scale where the other side crosses it, counting from the 0 on the first side.
To mark out or cut a particular angle, enter it before printing: the sheet gets a line at that angle to trace or to set a sliding bevel from. For the angle of a real surface, the inclinometer measures it with your phone.
